YILUN Cai
Yilun Cai Thomas was granted a Doctor's degree - (PhD) in theology – at the Catholic University of Leuven on April 15th 2014.
He was born In Shanghai and became a Catholic at the age of 21, joining a vibrant group of young Catholic Intellectuals in Shanghai diocese.
His Doctoral thesis was Robert Bellarmine's Theology of Pure Nature in the Commentary on Summa Theologia. His promoter was Prof Dr Nathijis Lamberigts and the board of examiners were: Prof DR Robertus Faesen, Professor Dr Wim Francois, Dr Marcel Gielis, and Profesor Dr Johan Leemans were the Chair.
Before he came to Europe, he had obtained a Bachelor's and master's degrees in Chinese Language and Religious studies at Fudan University, Faculty of Philosophy, Shanghai, and Shanghai Normal University, Faculty of Humanities. In Europe, He studied theology in Heythrop College, University of London, and the faculty of Theology at Oxford University.
His study interests include medieval and modern theology. And his PhD dissertation was on Robert Bellarmine, one of the most celebrated theologians who worked and lived in the University of Leuven for seven years.
His wife Sonia, who is also a PhD candidate - researching Gregory of Nyssa'a use of the 'Light Metaphor, and his daughter Sabina now one year old were present at the ceremony.
Yilun Cai hope to teach in a University in China and help the Catholic Church in the academic formation of priests, sisters and laity.
